Accolate Information
Accolate is a tablet helpful for
the prevention of asthma. Since asthma is
the principal cause of hospitalization in
children and number five in adults, control
of asthma buildup is critical, both to the
individual and to the nation.
Accolate is in the anti-leukotriene
family - medications that oppose the natural
body chemicals of inflammation. Asthma is a
non-stop inflammatory condition burning the
inner wall of the bronchial airways. Thus, a
daily anti-inflammatory medication is
prescribed to keep the burn under control.
Accolate and Singulair are the two
non-steroids approved to manage persistent
asthma and prevent flare-ups.
Accolate is taken twice daily. It is
approved from age 5 throughout adulthood.
Side-effects are scanty, with headaches
predominating, though not increased over
placebo test groups.
Likely the particular role for Accolate
is as an alternative to corticosteroids.
Often, too, it is used with steroids in
cases where more help is needed to put out
the fire.
When the asthmatic with moderate and
advanced disease is compliant with taking
his daily anti-inflammatory medications, the
progressive nature of asthma is generally
prevented.
