Chronic Obstructive Lung (Pulmonary) Disease (COPD)
Don’t accept this diagnosis of
gloom. COPD is not a disease, it’s a
wastebasket classification. Many patients
live with despair believing they have been
given a death sentence. Three quite
different conditions are lumped into one –
asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
Some with advanced chronic bronchitis or
emphysema, too late in this world, seek a
miracle when none can be forthcoming.
Many with asthma and
recurrent bronchitis have the potential of
living to the century mark. After doing
some appropriate preliminary lab
examinations to rule out serious
conditions, I would give the patient a
pulse of prednisone, 40-60 mgs per day for
7 to 14 days. Most patients reverted to a
near normal status within 72 hours.
