Mold Allergy
• An
important yet easily overlooked allergy
• Mold is 12 times more prevalent than
pollen
• Outdoors: Present when vegetation decay;
remain until the frost
• Indoors: Year around (abound in dark,
dank areas)
• Likes high humidity
• Present with moisture:
• Water damage (leaky roof) Water damage
to carpets and pads Soiling by pets and
babies Rooms (Musty) Bathrooms (shower
stalls) Kitchens (Uncovered foodstuffs)
Basements
Management:
• Keep humidity below 50%
(dehumidifier?) Replace water damaged
carpet and underpads Repair leaky faucets
and drains Wear filter mask when raking
leaves Wash down mold with (one gallon
water to one cup leach)
• Non-sedating antihistamines as needed
• Intra-nasal steroid or Cromolyn spray
every day.
